# ⛏️ The Miner Profession — FAQ
*"So you want to dig holes for a living."*
**What IS it?** A brand-new elite profession, unique to Outer Rim. Builds on surveying, so grab **Master Surveyor** first, then train at any **Miner Trainer** (every major city has one — 20 total) or via your mayor's `/recruitskilltrainer`. XP = inorganic harvesting.
**What do I GET?** Four bonuses that stack up the tree:
🔭 **Hand Sampling** *(surveying)* — **+5/+10/+10/+15** per box → bigger samples, longer range
⚙️ **Harvester Efficiency** — **+10%/box** → cheaper maintenance **and** power
📈 **Advanced Operations** — **+10%/box** → more resource per tick
📦 **Hopper & Storage** — **+25%/box** → bigger hoppers
**Full Master Miner:**
🛢️ **+50% extraction** (mine 1.5× as fast)
💸 **−50% maintenance & −50% power** (farm runs at half price)
📦 **+125% hopper** (holds 2.25× as much)
🔭 **+60 surveying** → 160 total with Master Surveyor:
• survey range **320m → 512m** (biggest grid in the game)
• **~60% more units** per sample, and you can sample almost any concentration
**Trained it but my harvester didn't change?!** The harvester bonuses lock in when you **place** it, and **you** must be the owner. Already got machines down? Just **relog** — your Miner bonuses re-apply to everything you own. New harvesters get it automatically.
**Worth it?** Half-price harvesters mining 50% faster into a hopper twice the size, plus a 512m survey net. If you even *look* at resources… yeah. ⛏️💎
